How This Calculator Works

Mass Balance

Feed flow = Permeate ÷ Recovery. Brine flow = Feed − Permeate. Brine TDS is estimated assuming ≈99.5% salt rejection: Brine TDS ≈ (Feed TDS × Feed Flow − 0.005 × Feed TDS × Permeate Flow) ÷ Brine Flow.

Operating Pressure

SWRO: 800–1,000 psi (55–69 bar). BWRO: 150–350 psi (10–24 bar). Tap RO: 100–250 psi.

Specific Energy (SEC)

SWRO without ERD: 6.0–8.0 kWh/m³. With modern ERD (60% reduction): 2.4–3.5 kWh/m³. BWRO: 0.5–1.5 kWh/m³. Tap RO: 0.3–0.8 kWh/m³.
