Brackish water has more salinity than fresh water but far less than seawater — typically 1,000 to 15,000 ppm total dissolved solids (TDS), from inland wells, rivers, and aquifers. Brackish water reverse osmosis (BWRO) removes those dissolved salts at lower pressure than seawater desalination, making it efficient for inland sites.
Seawater RO treats ~35,000 ppm TDS and runs at high pressure (up to ~1,000 psi) with lower recovery. Brackish RO treats lower-TDS inland water at lower pressure with higher recovery (often 75%+), so it uses less energy per gallon.
